Spiritual Gifts
What are Spiritual Gifts?
Spiritual Gift n. - A gift imparted from God to every believer when he or she is born or is baptized in the Holy Spirit. I think some people such as fortune tellers, psycics, and the like are people that have a gift, but they are not using it for the Glory of God. Spiritual Gifts are also not to be confused with natural gifts, or talents. Such as the ability to play an instrument, or being able to garden. They are given to every person, for the edification, or teaching, instructing, and rebuking the children in the Body of Christ. There are nine gifts.
Spiritual Gifts - I Corinthians 12
1. Word of Wisdom – Wise Words
2. Word of Knowledge – Spiritual Knowledge, When something that was hidden is revealed.
3. Faith – The Gift of Faith is different than regular Faith, it is the ability to believe in the power of God to do the miraculous. I believe that signs, wonders, and healings often fallow someone that has this gift.
4. Healing – The power to pray for people to be healed.
5. Miracles – The power to do the miraculous.
6. Prophecy – The ability to tell the future, sometimes involves blessing someone but usually involves rebuking someone.
7. Discerning of Spirits – Being able to tell what is right and wrong, good or evil, being able to tell spiritually what is going on behind the scenes, in the realm of angels and demons.
8. Speaking in Tongues – A heavenly language. The ability to speak in a known or unknown tongue. There are three types of tongues.
-1. Tongues that are for a sign to them that believe not, that they might be saved.
-2. Divers kinds of tongues which are the known languages of the world, spoken by men.
-3. Heavenly Tongues, or the tongues of angels which sometimes cannot be uttered. A prayer language between you and God. An intercessory tongue, used in spiritual warfare.
9. Interpretation of Tongues – The ability to interpret the tongues which are being spoken for the knowledge of the Church.
Do you have a Spiritual Gift? How do you use it?

yes, my spiritual gift is “being awesome”!!!

funny, you dont have “teaching”, “preaching/pastor-shepherd” or “encouragement” down… i would say those are mine a little – also, I think music is a spiritual gift, which i can do a little – i can sing and play a little guitar. I guess it could be seen as a talent, yet during extreme times of worship what I have experienced in letting go can only be God’s spirit guiding my hands and voice to lead and help others glorify Him.
yeah, yesturday i felkt like being funny… I am not really conceded (sp?) but thought it would be funny to type “being awesome” as my spiritual gift.. h aha
Daniel (doubledb)
Doubledb, the things that you mentioned are not so called “Spiritual Gifts.” Teaching and Preeching are things that everyone can do if they are well educated enough. As well as encouraging others, and playing instruments. I was just talking about the Nine Specific gifts talked about by the Apostle Paul in I Corinthians 12.
The Bible also talks about the different Offices, or Administrations, but I don’t think that they look like what we picture in our heads today in America. They are :
Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. -Ephesians 4:11-12-
Interesting that you do not mention love. Beware of human weakness. Is this a Freudian slip showing that you are more interested in what you get rather than what you can give?
All that you have mention is just pious postering without love and its manifestaton, compassion enacted. Read the following chapter to where you got your quotes.
Yes, I am well aware of I Corinthians 13 otherwise known as “The Love Chapter” and as you well know, I am always talking about that greatest commandment, what is it? ……………………………………………..Love? :heartbeat: You got it.
Actually, Derek, you seem to be always talking about a speicfic interpretation of the boble being the only wat to take it, not love. You certainly did not mention love in this post.
Of course, I meant the bible not the boble. In fact, I have no particular theological or spiritual understanding of the boble at all.
As you wished, Derek, I replied to your comment about the bible.
Love is important in the Scriptures, but it is not mentioned as a “Gift of the Spirit”. As Derek mentioned in his post, there are specific gifts of the spirit named in Scripture. More study needed!!!
Blessings on you, Rhonda :sunny:
Teaching is one – but God will use us however He can if we ar open.

Thank you Rhonda, that is exacly what I was trying to say. I agree that Love is the most important commandment, I was just talking about Spiritual Gifts in this post.
