  • Muscle and Ministry

Have you ever seen a bunch of super strong men get up on a stage and do things that seem impossible with nothing but their muscle power, things like bust a bunch of flaming bricks, or a ten foot wall of ice, or even just bend a steel jail bar like a pretzel? Well, if you haven’t it is pretty amazing, and what is even cooler is when they get done with all the hype to hear them give their testimonies and tell people about Jesus Christ, to see hundred or thousands of people give their life to the Lord. I have seen them and they changed my life. If you get a chance you should see them too, and invite all your friends. It is worth it.

  • I have seen them on tv… its kinda cool – but I wonder if entertaining people with/toward the gospel facilitates long-term growth or if it makes them only want to be continually entertained by such things. I find it hard myself to concentrate and have a quiet-time or pray or even listening to a 45 minute sermon… I think we should be helping people with these things instead of concerts, games, magicians and such

or at least we really need to balance the two

I am not saying its not cool – I just wonder sometimes

  • Its really about reaching the lost. It is a way to draw them in. And they do get saved.

  • Definitely a neat show, and good message. I enjoyed them tearing the phone books and exploding coke cans.

  • I am not saying people dont get saved – but what long-term commitment is there when you get saved because some guys rips phone books? I do think its awesome.. but I dont think its fosters true and genuine spiritual growth. Real growth is in the common parts of life, its building habits and spiritual disciplines so that we can be closer to God.

  • Yeah! They came to my school and my church a couple of times. They are awesome. My favorite is when they tear the phonebooks in half : )

  • I think they’re pretty cool. The percentage of kids and teenagers that have ever set foot in a church is dropping rapidly in this country, so I think alot of times you have to meet people where they are. Paul and Jesus did. In John 6, when Jesus starts talking about himself as the bread of life that you must eat, alot of the crowd that had been following him dropped off. They had been there for the entertainment value – I mean come on, people being healed, fish dinner for 5000; this was some serious entertainment back then:) Then when the teachings got too hard for them, they left. That’s just the way it is sometimes. Paul went right into the center of these pagan Greek cities and talked to them in their oratory style using examples from their culture – in first century Greece, that was entertainment – they loved fancy oratory like we love a good movie, or somebody ripping up phone books. Bottom line, it’s an evangelism tool, not a church, not a bible study, not a mentor, not a discipleship group. If we wait for them to come to us in church, we may be waiting a long time. These guys plant the seeds, and other people will be called and placed in the kids’ lives to water them.

  • I guess you can kind of look at the comments. No one said anything about Christ. But I guess ripping phone books in half is what they were looking for? Entertainment. Now, maybe they are all already Christians, then I would understand their responses some what better. I kind of fall some where between Daniel and princepessa25. It can be used I guess. But what good does it do? Does it teach that we are dead to sin and condemned to hell without Christ? I don’t know.

I have only seen bits and pieces on TV. I was not moved in any way with what I saw. I don’t doubt their sincerity though.
